If you’re thinking about visiting Sydney for the first time, you should definitely go through with the idea since this city is full of amazing things you can do and see. Being Australia’s biggest city, Sydney offers a variety of sightseeing options, restaurants and cafes, museums, galleries, sport venues and many other places and activities tourists find interesting.
We are not here to talk about the Opera House, the Reef and other mainstream places we know you’ve already heard of. Instead, we will try to inform you about other, less popular places that are equally worth mentioning. Here is your guide to things to do in Sydney.
Accommodation in Sydney
Firstly, you’ll need to find a place to stay. When it comes to Sydney, all options are wide open. However, an extremely interesting option is taking care of other people’s houses while they are away. This is a great opportunity to stay at a good location for free, yes you read it correctly, though you have to make some commitments. Whether you’d like to stay in a house with a pool and a spa, or you prefer something more low-key such as a cozy flat, house sitting options in Sydney are many and you shouldn’t have a problem finding a good one. Plus, some families have dogs or other pets you’ll need to take care of, besides the house. This is a great bonus for all animal lovers.
Cockatoo Island
This former industrial place which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site has a great Visitor Centre that offers self-guided tours. In the 19th century, this island used to be a convict penal establishment. Moreover, convicts built the first of the two dry docks on this island. It has an interesting history and it’s just a ferry ride away from Sydney. After the rich history lesson, you can enjoy cocktails at the Island Bar in the summertime.

It’s a great experience you definitely should not miss during your visit to Sydney. One of the best places you can do this is the Opera Bar. Watching the sun set overlooking the harbor is a breathtaking view, and can be very romantic, if you’re traveling with your significant other.
Australia has some of the most beautiful landscapes full of untamed beauty, but you will have a hard time seeing even the most iconic landmarks due to the sheer size of the continent and the amount of ground to cover. Koala Park Sanctuary
One of the first things that spring to mind when Australia is mentioned are koalas and kangaroos. There are several places you can see these exotic fluffy cuties. However, the best place to do this is not so popular among tourists, but the locals know it very well. The Koala Park Sanctuary at West Pennant Hills in Sydney is an amazing site where you can see, touch and feed these fluffy animals. However, you won’t be able to hold koalas in your hands as only the keepers have this privilege, but you will be allowed to pet them as long as their keepers are present. It’s an amazing experience for animal lovers.Regardless of how long you stay in Sydney, there are numerous places you can visit.
